Cavan is often overlooked when it comes to places to visit in Ireland and it many ways this makes it better for the visitor as so much of the county is still unspoilt with its many lakes and rivers, beautiful scenery and fascination history. 

Ireland’s newest Greenway provides a 30km car-free pathway starting at the Blackwater Park in Navan and traveling along the former Midland Great Western Railway, steeped in natural, built, and cultural heritage, to Kingscourt, finishing at Dun an Rí Forest Park.

Kingscourt in a busy market town in the south east corner of Co Cavan. We have lying on our doorstep the famous and captivating Dun A Ri forest park. Here you will find many pleasant nature trails and walks. Cabra Castle is situated less than two minutes drive from Plantation Lodge. This prestigious four star hotel is steeped in history and charm.
There are plenty of lakes for fishing in the vicinity. Surrounding lakes such as Ervey and Greaghlone are well stocked with several types of course fish. Plantation Lodge is just a 10 minute drive from the thriving town of Carrickmacross home to the famous Carrickmacross Lace. We also have the historic town of Kells nearby, with its high crosses and round towers.
During your stay with us you could drive to the ancient tombs at Newgrange, Nowth and Dowth. These mangnificant complex of bronze ago tombs are well renowned and offer a glimpse of the areas colourful history and great beauty.
